Encompassing the historic Boettcher House in this 110-acre park, the Lookout Mountain Nature Center offers a variety of services to visitors. Programs are available for all ages of people, as well as numerous nature trails, some linking to nearby Apex and Windy Saddle parks and the Buffalo Bill Museum and Grave. The center is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10am to 4pm.

Located northeast of Golden, the Golden Gate Canyon State Park boasts 12,000 acres of natural area. Activities supported by this park include picnicking, camping, hiking, biking, animal watching and much more. The miles of trails welcomes horseback riders, as well as hikers and mountain bikers, while the canyon offers an array of fishing areas.

Evidence of early native tribes and pioneering families are found at White Ranch Park. Dating back as far as 1865, homes of several settlers are found, as well as camping areas, trails and scenic views. This park is located 18 mi (29 km) north of Golden on Pine Ridge Road.

Containing trails and historic sites, Apex Park in Golden attracts many residents and visitors each year. Suitable for hiking and biking, trails for all levels can wind through the park. Several of these pathways lead to historic areas, including Apex Gulch, a toll road for the gold rush days. People can access the park from the northeast corner of the Heritage Square parking lot.
